Making A Concept A Reality
A key focus of the project was the development of production-ready, Design for Manufacture (DFM) solutions that maintained the integrity of the original design intent while integrating seamlessly with the stairlift’s mechanical functionality. JMDA evaluated multiple construction methods, mechanisms and material strategies to balance performance, manufacturability, robustness and cost. As an external design partner, JMDA helped Stannah explore the unknowns and new ideas, unrestricted from the preconceptions that come in a corporate environment.
Working in close collaboration with Stannah’s internal engineering team, we helped rationalise and refine the seat unit architecture, resolving technical challenges and supporting the transition from concept to viable production solution—ultimately enabling a high-quality, design-led product to be successfully realised for manufacture.
“JMDA‘s experience in restraint design and technology contributed to this flagship new chair enabling Stannah to maintain and reinforce it as the leading brand in the stairlift market.”
