Supporting Child Safety Week through creating innovative products

Child Safety Week which runs from Monday 6th to Sunday 12th June is an annual community education campaign run by the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT), acting as a catalyst for thousands of safety conversations and activities UK-wide.

The JMDA Design Team are passionate about supporting child safety with over 30 years’ experience in designing products specifically for the juvenile market to address safety-related issues. Our products range from first aid kits to child car seats, with a recent innovative product design project Bubbarolla by JMDA focussing on improving the wellness of babies and young children by tackling the health problems caused by environmental aggressors.

Based in New York, we worked with Bubbarolla to design and create an air filtration capsule and air quality monitor, to attach onto a stroller canopy. As well as a filtration system to manage the air quality in the stroller space surrounding the child, it also uses an Environmental Protection System (EPS) to protect against pollution, UV and rain.

The Bubbarolla Environmental Protection System takes child safety to a whole new level and we’re proud to say we helped them get there! We love a challenge and when it’s concerning child safety the drive is even stronger to address the growing problem of ground level air pollution, particularly in larger, busy cities. Through thorough research and contextual studies, we gained a unique insight into the health and safety problems from environmental aggressors in urban spaces. Our team of industrial designers were then able to create concepts and progress to styling development. The Bubbarolla product design was then engineered to a functional, working prototype and then in turn we worked with the client to identify a factory in China throughout the design process.

The complex issue of child safety is evident in all situations and environmental forces are ever increasing due to our impact on the planet. Spearheading new innovative products is our way of not only supporting child safety but also to help address environmental issues too.
